Heading into the second week of Down South’s regional rankings we see a shakeup at the top. After being swept by Georgia College, North Georgia fell down to the three spot, while winning weeks for Armstrong State and Pfeiffer allow them each to move up a spot. Armstrong State is currently on a 10 game win streak and has jumped back in the polls at the #13 spot while in the Massey Ratings is at #4 with a 1.38 rating, the best in the Southeast. In the latest NFCA poll Pfeiffer now represents the only Southeast team in the top 10 coming in at a program best #4. The North Georgia loss dropped them in the NFCA poll down to #17, however with their strength of schedule they are still ranked 12th in the Massey Ratings with a 2nd best rating of 1.25 in the southeast.
Following the top 3 is Young Harris who had the largest jump this week moving up 3 spots to #4. Young Harris is on a 10 game win streak including a 9 game win streak in conference punctuated by a sweep of Georgia College the day after GC swept North Georgia. While not represented in the polls, Young Harris is the 3rd best team in the Massey Ratings sitting at #15 with a 1.20 rating. Limestone fell one spot to #5 this week, in part to a loss to Coker in a split series but mostly because Young Harris was able to jump them on their current streak.
Carson-Newman stays at #6 this week, but is gaining ground in the Massey Ratings by being ranked in the top 40 nationally and the highest ranked team in the South Atlantic. Carson-Newman is currently the hottest team in the Southeast sporting a 15 game win streak, and all but 2 wins being regional wins. Carson-Newman is followed by fellow Georgia College who picked up 1 spot in part to a sweep over then #2 North Georgia, however being swept by Young Harris the following day did not allow the Bobcats to gain much ground.
SAC conference foes Lenoir-Rhyne and Anderson come in at the 8 and 9 spots respectively. Lenoir-Rhyne is currently ranked #20 in the NFCA polls but Anderson touts a better Massey Rating. These two teams are really interchangeable and neither were able to make a move splitting series yesterday with Lenoir-Rhyne splitting with Newberry and Anderson splitting with Mars Hill.
Flagler comes in at the 10 spot for the second time in a row. The Saints were able to sweep two series this past week in the PBC but have been unable to really make any headway. They currently sit at #51 in the Massey Ratings with a 0.91 rating. Coker is just on the other side of the top 10 for the second week in a row, but are on the verge of cracking the top 10 and still have big series with Lenoir-Rhyne and Carson-Newman left on their schedule.
