Down South’s Southeast Region Predictions

With the season starting today we wanted to  look into our crystal ball and see who will be playing in this year Southeast Regionals.  Taking a look at each of the conference and past seedings we are seeing a trend with the Peach Belt always earning more spots in part to their extremely strong RPI, well 2017 doesn’t look to be any different.  We have 5 PBC teams in along with 2 SAC and 1 CC.

Armstrong State Regional

#1 Armstrong vs. #8 Anderson
#4 Georgia College vs. #5 Pfieffer
#1 Armstrong defeats #5 Pfeiffer in Championship Game.

We still predict for Armstrong to come out on top in the PBC which will lock up their #1 spot in the region.  Pfeiffer will come in and surprise some people, they may have a low seeding because of their schedule in the Conference Carolinas but they are no pushovers.  They will surprise Georgia College and Anderson with their team and come up just short to a talent led Armstrong State squad.

Lenoir-Rhyne Regional

#2 Lenoir-Rhyne vs. #7 Lander
#3 North Georgia vs. #6 UNC Pembroke
#3 North Georgia defeats #2 Lenoir-Rhyne in Championship Game.

Lenoir-Rhyne has the team and schedule to earn the #2 spot in the region this year by dominating the conference, however don’t be surprised if it is North Georgia at the #2 spot instead of Lenoir-Rhyne.  Lander and Pembroke will both be visiting the regionals for the first time and while excited they will be a little overwhelmed by the powers of Lenoir-Rhyne and North Georgia.  We think North Georgia may fall early but this team will be clicking at the end of the season looking for some revenge on Armstrong state.

Championship Round at Armstrong State

#1 Armstrong vs. #3 North Georgia.
#1 Armstrong defeats #3 North Georgia in a 2-1 series.

This could easily be the fourth, fifth and sixth meeting between these two teams when the season is over.  North Georgia will be strong enough to get a game here, but the strong pitching staff and senior leadership on Armstrong’s squad will help take them to their second World Series appearance in a row.

Down South would like to thank everyone for reading our Season Preview series and would like to wish all the Southeast teams the best of luck in the upcoming season.  In case you missed any of our season previews here is a link to all of them.
